About Bahir Dar

Bahir Dar is located at 11.6N 37.4E, about 300 km north-northwest of Addis Ababa on the southern shore of Lake Tana, at an elevation of 1700m above sea level. Lake Tana is the source of the Blue Nile (Abay). 'Bahir Dar' translates as 'next to the river'. Bahir Dar is the capital of the Amhara Administrative Region of Ethiopia.
